The Honourable Audley Fitz-Albert Shaw

The Honourable Minister Audley Shaw was born in Christiana, Manchester on June 13, 1952.

He attended the Christiana Leased Junior School, Knox College and Holmwood Technical High School in North East Manchester. He first worked with Jamaica Milk Products as a Laboratory Technician and then went on to work with the JAMAL Movement first as an Area Literacy Officer for North East Manchester and subsequently as Zone Officer for St. Andrew.

The Honourable Minister left Jamaica to attend the Northern Illinois University (NIU) where he graduated from, in 1981, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism. He later went on to pursue a Master of Arts Degree at the same institution majoring in Marketing, Finance and Public Relations.

Between 1983 and 1986, He became the Director of Public Relations and Advertising at the Jamaica National Investment Promotions Limited (JNIP). His responsibilities included overseeing operations in the various JNIP’s Marketing and Overseas Offices in the United States, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. During this period many new investments came to Jamaica, employing thousands of people all across the country.

Mr. Shaw resigned his position with Government and became a Merchant and Marketing Consultant, in 1986.

In 1989, the then Leader of Opposition, The Most Honourable Edward Seaga, appointed Mr. Shaw to the Senate. He has served as Shadow Minister of Information and Culture, Shadow Minister of Public Utilities and Transport and Shadow Minister of Industry and Commerce. As a servant of the people, Minister Shaw has been the Member of Parliament for North East Manchester since 1993.

Mr. Shaw has served as General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party and has been a Deputy Leader in the Party, since 1999. He was appointed Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament – the watchdog of expenditure of public funds by Government Ministries and Agencies in 1995.

In September 2007, Mr. Shaw was appointed as Minister of Finance and the Public Service in the new Government of the Jamaica Labour Party.

He is the recipient of the Donald R. Grubb NIU distinguished Alumni Award.
