Minister Without Portfolio
in the Ministry of Finance and The Public Service

A Fellow Chartered Accountant, Don Wehby gained his early auditing experience at Touche-Ross Thorburn. He holds both a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) and Masters of Science (MSc.) degree in Accounting from the University of the West Indies and has completed an advanced management college certificate course at Stanford University.

In 1995 Mr. Wehby joined GraceKennedy Limited as Group Finance Manager and was appointed Deputy Finance Director in 1997. The following year, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer and in 1999 was named Chief Operating Officer of the Financial Services Division. While in that post he directed the listing of GraceKennedy on the Jamaican, Trinidadian, Barbadian and Eastern Caribbean Stock Exchanges, thus enabling the company to become the first and only Jamaican cross-listed company. Under his leadership, GraceKennedy acquired 100% ownership of First Global Bank Ltd., which has since become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company. During his tenure as Chief Operating Officer of the Financial Services Division, the division’s pre-tax profit increased from $280 million in 2000 to $1.417 billion in 2005, an increase of 406%. In December 2005 Mr. Wehby relinquished his role as Chief Operating Officer to take on expanded responsibilities in his portfolio as Group Chief Financial Officer. On December 1, 2006 he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer – GraceKennedy Limited and Chief Executive Officer – GK Investments.

In September 2007, Mr. Wehby accepted Prime Minister Bruce Goldings request to join his new Cabinet as Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service. He accepted this call to national service, relinquishing his position at GraceKennedy Limited and joined the Senate, the Upper House of Parliament.

Mr. Wehby has served on the boards of Cable & Wireless Jamaica Limited, Food for the Poor, and his alma mata St. George’s College. He was also a member of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica’s (PSOJ) Economic Policy Committee and the Honorary Treasurer of the PSOJ’s Executive. During his tenure at GraceKennedy Ltd. Mr. Wehby served as Deputy Chairman of First Global Bank Limited and First Global Financial Services Ltd, and as a Board member of several GraceKennedy subsidiaries.

Mr. Wehby is an avid cricket fan and a member of the Kingston Cricket Club. He has served on committees of the West Indies Cricket Board; these include the Ad-Hoc Finance Committee and the Special Development committee. Mr. Wehby is married with three children.
