Message from Minister of Finance and the Public Service

The past year has been a very active and important one at the Ministry of Finance and The Public Service. Among the game-changing objectives realized were; the inking of an IMF Stand-by Agreement, the successful execution of the Jamaica Debt Exchange, and the introduction of far-reaching pieces of legislation.
Central to the focus of these objectives was the interest of the Jamaican Citizen.
And at the core of the accomplishment of each was the dedicated, customer-focused team of this Ministry. Both have provided the basis for a win: win situation.
But critical though they are, the achievement of macro-economic targets is only a part of our mission. Just as important is the Citizen’s experience at all of our service points. In this regard, the Ministry of Finance and The Public Service must stand tall. As such, the term “efficiency” has become a mantra amongst Team Members as they re-design systems, and entire departments, to serve the public and optimize output. Long-requested improvements in the way we do business with the Public are being implemented, with measurable results already being seen.
Two of our busiest service points – Tax Administration and the Jamaica Customs Department - are undergoing significant restructuring, and are set to become models of customer service within the Public Service. Our Tax Policy and Pensions Administration departments are also being reformed to meet demanding objectives.
Excellence is a two-way street, and our Team is committed to delivering faster, and more efficient service in return for our Citizens’ tax dollar. Measurable progress has been made. The upcoming year will be equally demanding. We will uphold our pledge as we ask the Public to enter into an even more productive partnership with us
