Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Omar Davies, rejected the inference carried in the news reports that there was any delay by the Government in completing the current negotiations with the teachers concerning salaries and conditions of service. The Minister stated that the Agreement has been reached in principle with regard to the realignment process and around issues relating to leave and performance appraisal. Commenting on the negotiations today, Minister Davies said the schedule of the salary payments will be submitted to the Cabinet on Monday for discussion and approval. Minister Davies said the proposed provisions for retroactive payments will also be submitted to Cabinet on Monday for discussion and approval. The Finance and Planning Minister observed that having arrived at a consensus on the fundamental issues, he expected that other aspects of the dispute on teachers' remuneration would be agreed on very shortly.
