The Honourable Omar Davies, Ministry of Finance and Planning along with Minister of State, the Honourable Fitz Jackson and other officials of the Ministry of Finance and Planning met with representatives of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) led by Senator Dwight Nelson today October 10, 2003. The meeting resulted from a request by the Confederation to deal with issues arising for a directive to Ministries and Department regarding the creation of posts, filling of vacancies and reclassification. Arising out of the discussions, it was agreed that a committee to be chaired by the Honourable Fitz Jackson and comprising representatives of the Confederation and the Ministry of Finance and Planning would be established to facilitate a process of dialogue between the parties on issues that affect public sector workers. The Confederation took note of the fact that the Ministry already had in place an internal Committee to expeditiously deal with requests in relation to creation of post and the filling of vacancies and expressed appreciation for the Minister's prompt response to their letter.
