GOJ Service Excellence Month

Service Excellence Month is an exciting initiative celebrated by Government ministries, departments and agencies across Jamaica. It is aimed at highlighting the commitment of the public sector to creating a culture of service that not only meets but exceeds expectations, benefiting all who interact with the government. Led by the Public Sector Modernisation Division (PSMD) within the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, this year's theme, "Elevating Service: Above and Beyond," underscores the government's unwavering commitment to establishing a culture of excellence in public service.

Key Activities

  • The GOJ Services Mobile Fair: Bringing essential government services directly to your doorstep in Morant Bay, St. Thomas.

 

  • The Launch of the Community of Practice for GOJ Service Excellence Professionals: Fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and best practices among public sector service professionals.

 

  • Capacity-building sessions: Empowering service professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to deliver exceptional service through the People Engagement Guidelines and GOJ Service Delivery Minimum Standards.

 

  • Front Office Décor and Service Excellence Competitions: Recognizing and rewarding government entities that are leading the way in implementing innovative service practices.
History

ABOUT PSMD

Established in 2002 in the Office of the Cabinet and transferred to the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service on April 1, 2024, the Public Sector Modernisation Division (PSMD) has the mandate to drive the transformation and modernisation of the Public Sector.

The Division’s strategic focus is embodied in its commitment to improving service quality, coherence, and responsiveness of Government entities while promoting a well-managed and professional public sector. The PSMD supports Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in implementing integrated services and systems tailored to drive efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of Government services.

The PSMD coordinates its programme under three (3) result areas, namely:

  • SERVICE EXCELLENCE PROGRAMME
  • INTEGRATED INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (IICT)
  • HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT MODERNISATION AND INSTITUTIONAL STRENGTHENING

CELEBRATING SERVICE EXCELLENCE

All public sector employees across Government ministries, departments, and agencies are encouraged to engage in the activities. Members of the public are also encouraged to participate in the Service Excellence Conference and the GOJ Services Mobile Fair.

Outlined Aims

The Access to Information Act was passed in June, 2002. It gives citizens and other persons a general legal right of access to official government documents which would otherwise be inaccessible. By recognising and upholding this right, the Act aims to reinforce fundamental democratic principles vital to:

  • improved , more transparent government;
  • greater accountability of government to its people;
  • increased public influence on and participation in national decision making; and
  • informed knowledge of the functioning of government.

The Access to Information Application

To apply for access to official documents under the Act, complete the application form below or write a letter requesting the information desired. Be as specific as possible in the Application i.e. Describe the subject matter of the records and, if known, indicate the dates of the records, the places where they originated, and the names of the originating persons or offices.

Applications may also be made by email, telephone or fax. In completing this form, you may:

  1. Fill in the form on-screen and then print it for submission to the responsible ATI office;

  2. or print the form and fill in the fields by hand for submission to the responsible ATI office.

Amendments/Annotations of Personal Records

Where an official document containing personal information about you is incomplete, incorrect, out of date or misleading, and is used or is available for use by a government entity for administrative purposes, this application form may be used to have the document amended or annotated.

The application must specify the basis for making the claim and the nature of the amendment or annotation which you require.

Where an annotation is required, you must include, along with the Application, a statement specifying the correction which you feel needs to be made. You will, in most cases, be required to provide verification of the truth of the matters contained in this type of application. You may also be asked to provide relevant identification.
